Canadian Wild Ginger
FamilyAristolochiaceae - Birthwort Family

Canadian Wild Ginger (Asarum canadense) is a low-growing, perennial groundcover native to North American woodlands. It spreads slowly by rhizomes, forming dense colonies of heart-shaped leaves close to the ground. This plant thrives in part to full shade and prefers moist, rich, well-drained soils, making it ideal for shaded garden areas or woodland settings. Canadian Wild Ginger requires medium water and does best in soils that are consistently moist but not waterlogged. It is valued for its ability to cover the ground in shady spots where grass and other plants may struggle.
