Iris virginica v. shrevei

Blueflag Iris (Iris virginica var. shrevei) is a perennial native iris that thrives in wet to moist soils, often found in marshes, wet meadows, and along streambanks. It typically grows 2 to 3 feet tall and produces showy blue to violet flowers in late spring to early summer. Blueflag Iris prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade, though it will not bloom as well with less sunlight. This plant requires consistently moist to wet soil and is well-suited for rain gardens or the edges of ponds and streams. Its clumping growth habit makes it an attractive choice for naturalizing in wetland areas.
