Carex muskingumensis

Palm Sedge (Carex muskingumensis) is a clump-forming perennial sedge native to moist woodlands and streambanks in central and eastern North America. It features bright green, palm-like foliage that radiates from the stems, giving it a distinctive, tropical appearance. Palm Sedge thrives in partial to full shade but can tolerate some sun if the soil remains consistently moist. It prefers wet to medium soils and is well-suited for rain gardens, wet meadows, or the edges of ponds and streams. This sedge grows 2 to 3 feet tall and spreads slowly by short rhizomes, forming attractive, dense colonies. Palm Sedge is valued for its ornamental texture and its ability to stabilize soil in wet areas.
