Carex radiata
Eastern Star Sedge (Carex radiata) is a clump-forming perennial sedge native to eastern North America. It thrives in partial to full shade but can tolerate dappled sunlight; too much sun may cause it to become leggy and slow its spread. This sedge prefers moist, organically rich soils and is happiest with consistent moisture, though it can withstand some drier conditions once established. Eastern Star Sedge typically grows 12–24 inches tall and is well-suited for woodland gardens, rain gardens, or as a ground cover in shaded areas. It is low-maintenance and non-aggressive, making it a good companion for native ferns and woodland wildflowers. Regular watering is important, especially during hot or dry periods, to keep the plant healthy and vibrant.
