Hesperis matronalis

Dame's Rocket

Dame's Rocket (Hesperis matronalis) is a biennial or short-lived perennial that grows 2-4 feet tall, producing clusters of fragrant, four-petaled flowers in shades of purple, pink, or white. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soils but can tolerate a range of conditions. Dame's Rocket is known for its vigorous self-seeding and can spread rapidly in garden and wild settings. It is often confused with native phlox, but can be distinguished by its four petals (phlox have five). This plant is considered invasive in many areas and should be managed carefully to prevent unwanted spread.
