Black Lace Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) is a deciduous shrub known for its deeply cut, dark purple-black foliage and pinkish-white flower clusters. It typically grows in a multi-stemmed, upright habit and can reach heights of 6-8 feet. Black Lace Elderberry thrives in part shade but can also tolerate full sun, especially if provided with adequate moisture. It prefers medium to wet soil conditions and does best in circumneutral pH soils. Regular watering is important, particularly during establishment and in drier periods. This shrub is valued for both its ornamental appeal and its wildlife benefits, attracting pollinators and providing berries for birds.
